Conditions: Atopic Dermatitis/Eczema
What is atopic dermatitis?
Atopic dermatitis, or eczema, is a very common skin disorder. It is chronic and non-contagious and is usually more severe in childhood, though it may affect the skin throughout adulthood. Research into atopic dermatitis is incredibly complex and is truly on the cutting edge when it comes to new knowledge about the body's immune system.
What are the symptoms?
Common symptoms include:
  • Red, dry, scaly patches of skin
  • Extreme itching
  • Blisters and oozing
How is it treated?
Like many skin conditions, atopic dermatitis is not curable. However, it can be managed by minimizing and treating outbreaks. You may be able to minimize outbreaks by avoiding "triggers" such as:
  • Irritating ingredients in creams, lotions, and soaps
  • Rough, scratchy, or tight clothing
  • Rapid changes in temperature
  • Stress
